Today, Bobby and I went to Scranton to the LaFesta Italiana, a local Italian festival. It took up the entire courthouse square and was mostly food booths, with a couple of music spots, and one t-shirt, flag and other Italian stuff booth. Here is just a few of the things we saw at the 37th annual Italian festival.
Red, white and green was everywhere.
Even on girls rear ends.
There were food vendors from New York City and all over Pennsylvania.
Vodka seems to be a popular ingredient in cooking out here.
There were plenty of places to sit, and listen to music, or eat...
or sit and drink.
Pizza was everywhere.
Italian sausage.
Fried ravioli.
Italian pastries of all kinds.
Here she is sacking up my cannoli.
Cute shoppers of all ages and ethnicity were on the square..
Lots of serious eating.
One of the bands that was playing when we got there.
The folks were enjoying the music, either street dancing or just sitting.
These musicians were on the other side of the square and could flat play their guitars.
This band was playing when we left, and this man was singing to the ladies.
The buildings down town were spectacular, and will be another blog.
This festival was a three day deal, September 1,2, and 3. I am just glad I got to go for the afternoon, because my weight would have climbed to former days when I was going to Sul Ross!
A lot of the houses here are old, and just about all of them have front porches. Let's take a tour of New Milford.
Most of the porches are cozy with flowers, chairs and things to make sitting out enjoyable.
This is an old house! There are lots of nice old houses here.
This house is made of cobblestone and the lady who owns it says her taxes are higher because of it. She has her Daisy Basket Shop behind it.
These are row houses--old, but not as fancy as some of the big houses.
This is a really old house on Main Street. It needs some repair and paint, but it is still beautiful.
One of the creeks that runs through town.
Morning fog. I took the picture from my front porch. More later.
I try to walk as much as possible in this little town, and take my camera along to get some shots of the green landscape. The town is full of beautiful flowers. So far I haven't had any irate natives run out of their houses to stop my photography! So, here are some things I see as I wander around in New Milford, PA.
This cautious fellow wanted to be friends, but we didn't have time to get together. I just couldn't stand in the folks' yard and coax him for 15 minutes.
I don't know what they are, but they do well here.
Looks like a cotton bloom and even has bowls like a cotton plant. Someone--please identify it!
I am amazed that sunflowers do so well since there is so much shade. They are a favorite.
Beautiful flower gardens grow with such ease!
Many homes have a flag!
This huge flower garden is at Gibson right beside one of my favorite antique stores.
This is a bed and breakfast home.
Many mail boxes have flowers around them or have pots mounted behind them like this.
I don't think this is yarrow.
Wheel barrows serve as planters.
This is the only honeysuckle I have seen, and believe it or not it does well in West Texas. Love it!
Plants even grow in the crotch of trees (it's that wet here). I haven't seen a sprinkler since I left Jayton, Texas..
Flowers grow in old dead tree stumps. The petunias aren't as pretty here as they are in Montana (my opinion).
Barn quilts are very popular here.
So are outhouses.
And so are other wooden things.
Just one of the beautiful yards on a side street that I walk.
Looking down toward Main Street.
The only wild animal I have seen here (other than road kill). Fall is on its way; leaves are starting to turn, and I can feel it in the air--you know when the sun is shining brightly but not burning you up.That's what I mean when I say I can feel it. The colors will be gorgeous.
